Technical Requirements
There are a few things that need to be considered when planning to construct a solid terrain model.
- Do you have data that covers the area?
- How big of a model do you require (or would like)?
- What scale of data would this size of a model need?
- Does my data meet the resolution requirements for that size (scale) of a model?
The staff at GeoSolutions Consulting can help you answer these questions and more.
The following tables provide a guideline for range of model scales that can be produced from different resolutions of DEM and imagery data.
| DEM Resolution | Min | Max |
|---|---|---|
| 1 metre | 1: 500 | 1: 1,200 |
| 5 metre | 1: 2,000 | 1: 5,000 |
| 10 metre | 1: 5,000 | 1: 12,000 |
| 30 metre | 1: 12,000 | 1: 35,000 |
| 90 metre | 1: 35,000 | 1: 90,000 |
| 100 metre | 1: 40,000 | 1: 120,000 |
