What is Solid Terrain Modeling?
Full colour and highly detailed physical terrain models are now available using an innovative technology developed by Solid Terrain Modeling Inc. (STM) that carves the models from high density foam and prints on detailed photo-realistic images. GeoSolutions Consulting is the Canadian STM Valued Added Reseller (VAR) and has produced a number of these high quality models for public presentations.
STM models provide a clear visual understanding of even the most complex geographic landscapes and can be constructed in almost any size. They are well suited for public kiosks, public consultation and site analysis. The models are cut from a high-density, yet very light weight, polyurethane foam using a high precision milling machine. Unlike older style models, the elevation changes are very smooth and there is no “stair-stepping” change in topography.
The image can display any type of geographic information right on top of the model (satellite data, airphotos, GIS data, annotations, symbols, etc.)
