What types of data can I use?
- Contour lines
- Spot Heights
- X, Y, Z locations
- Any data with a location and another value (X, Y, Z or G)
population density, Water level, Income, direction, ...
Your geographic database may already contain 3D information but even if it doesn't there are ways of obtaining it. Here are a few examples:
- Elevation and topographical data of varying resolutions can be purchased for almost every area of the globe.
- Your Paper Maps can be digitally scanned and 3D information such a contour lines and spot heights can be captured in a digital format directly on the computer screen using heads-up digitizing.
- ASCII Text files that contain X,Y,Z data can be imported so their 3D location can be shown directly on the screen.
- The percentage of each province's population over the age of 65 can be connected to a provincial map and shown in 3D where the height of the object represents it's value. (see picture below)
